The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, celebrated its 62nd foundation day on November 14. The Distinguished Alumnus Award, 2022 ceremony was also held on the occasion.
The award was instituted in 2011 during the golden jubilee celebrations of the institute. This year’s awardees were GM Kapur, 8th batch, chairman, visioning committee, INTACH Conservation Institute; Srikant Sastri, 20th batch, entrepreneur, author and content creator; Sanjay Gupta, 26th batch, country head & vice-president, Google India and Anindya Ghose, 33rd batch, Heinz Riehl Chair professor of business and director, NYU Stern MS in Business Analytics.

Manish Thakur, dean (new initiatives & external relations), congratulated the recipients for their exceptional achievements. He said their remarkable contributions in their respective fields are a matter of great pride for their alma mater.
The foundation day lecture was delivered by Shyam Srinivasan, managing director & CEO, Federal Bank and a distinguished alumnus of IIM Calcutta. He explained how the generation today will shape the future of India tomorrow. He said, “Your passports are ready the moment you get into the campus, now go get your visa stamped.” He also answered questions asked by students during the Q&A session.

In his address, Uttam Kumar Sarkar, director, IIM Calcutta, said, “It’s a proud moment for IIM Calcutta, the country’s first IIM, to celebrate its 62nd foundation day. I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all stakeholders over the years who helped us become what we are today.”
The award ceremony was followed by an address by Shrikrishna Kulkarni, chairperson, board of governors, IIM Calcutta. He said, “The need for incorporating human values in management is being felt by humanity today – more than ever before! IIM Calcutta can be a global leader in filling this gap”.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Bhaskar Chakrabarti, dean (academic), IIM Calcutta.
