Indian Institute of Management Calcutta hosted its 59th Annual Convocation 2024 in a traditional way on its Joka campus on April 6. The grand ceremony began with the introduction of the chief guest and the presentation of the annual report by Saibal Chattopadhyay, director-in-charge, IIM Calcutta

Uday Kotak, chairman of Kotak Securities, was felicitated at IIM Calcutta’s 59th convocation, for his contributions to the industry. The ceremony, held in the grand setting of the convocation hall, captured the essence of achievement and academic excellence and was attended by faculty, distinguished guests, and graduating students. His presence at the event underscored the significance of leadership and innovation in shaping the future of business education and industry
‘Returning to college after working for nearly eight years in the non-profit sector was entirely a new experience for me. Prior to this, I had little knowledge on how business works and when I came here, it was surprising to learn new things everyday. As I had preconceived notions about a lot of things it was a process of unlearning and relearning for me,’ said Tushar Singh, a passout of the MBA executive programme
‘I come from a mechanical background and I was earlier working in a PSU. Coming to IIMC was a life-changing experience for me. The professors and the overall academic culture over here was extremely enriching, as I was able to grasp on different aspects of business. This MBA course has drastically changed my personality as a whole and I hope I am able to make the most of the opportunities I get from here in the near future’ said Nishant Anand, another passout of the MBA executive programme
‘I was engaged in domestic and international sales for five years prior to joining IIMC. Working in an ed-tech start-up I understood that there is much more to business than this. I see myself as a business leader and hence decided to study ahead to understand the different aspects of business. My experience at IIMC has taught me a lot as now I know the different approaches to solving a problem. The professors here did not spoon feed any of us but what they really gave us was perspective which made me think a lot more. Also here I was the first female sports secretary (in the history of IIMC) for the one-year full-time MBA. We won a lot of tournaments here and playing 17 sports in total was a memory that I will cherish forever,’ added Suhasini Dayal, a passout of MBA for executives
‘As a fresher getting into IIMC was the biggest life-changing experience for me. My entire tenure here taught me how to think and solve a problem more structurally. Apart from this the ‘JOKA SPIRIT’ is a real thing as I have never seen a batch where more than 480 people step forward to support each other,’ said Anjali Rai, seen here with her parents and sister-in-law
‘I come from the Indian Army and hence, it was a complete transition for me. The experience of learning about businesses, had I not come here, I would have missed a great deal on how businesses work. Taking up the one-year course on MBA for executives has actually empowered me to understand the jargons of business and what it means to actually lead one,’ added Parikshit Bawa, another passout of the MBA programme for executives
Students cheered and applauded during their graduation ceremony at IIMC. ‘Climbing a treacherously steep mountain is arduous, but the views along the way and at the top are breath-taking. A PhD is an intense labour of love, and the journey is riddled with all imaginable hurdles. However, almost everyone I've met during my journey at IIM Calcutta has helped me, directly or indirectly, to reach my goal. And, most importantly, the acknowledgements section of my thesis mentions every single aspect of life on campus, including the animals and wildlife who brought me great joy - an ingredient necessary for completing an academic journey!” said Sohini Mazumder (extreme left), PhD, economics, IIM-C 2024
