The alumni association of Hirendra Leela Patranavis School (formerly Better High School) organised the Season 5 of Prestige Cup on September 10. The annual sporting extravaganza also serves as an opportunity for a reunion of the school’s former students. The one-day event held at Turf XL saw eight teams competing against one another in football. The participating teams were Titans, Demolishing Extremists, Power Phoenix, Nautical Ninjas, Roaring Lions, Gladiators, Special 7 and Prowling Panthers. The semi-finals saw Gladiators, Titans, Demolishing Extremists and Power Phoenix putting their best foot forward. After a nail-biting semi-final, Gladiator and Demolishing Extremists made it to the final, with the former scoring two goals and emerging the winning team. The event saw a lot of friendly banter, fun and healthy competition among old school buddies who united over good food and the love for football.

President of the HLPS alumni association, Subhojit Auddy, who is from the batch of 2006 (ISC), said: “We have a lot of fun organising these events and having an integrity in this work is very important. That is our backbone which helps us hold our head high and straight and chin up.”

HLPS alumni association committee member Sagar Das, from the batch of 2016 (ISC), the captain of Extremists, said: “The 2016 and the 2017 batch had thought about doing something for the school’s alumni. We had so many new faces willing to join us. So we went to our president and he instantly agreed to arrange a Prestige Cup. It started off on a smaller note but today it is an extravaganza. We have got support from our teachers, members, and sponsors.” Das won the best goalkeeper of the tournament award.
