The theme: In its 92nd year, the theme of Hindustan Park Sarbojonin recognises and acknowledges a profession and a section of society that remains largely invisible and forgotten though they add glamour and style to the lives of their patrons. ‘Jonaki Theke Agnisikha’ celebrates the skill and craftsmanship of the countless local tailors and karigars who painstakingly transform our sartorial dreams into reality. Designed with boards that resemble the signages on top of modest neighbourhood tailoring shops, the pandal is innovatively decorated with hangers, rolls of textiles, scraps of discarded cloth and such other knick knacks usually found in a tailor’s workshop. Rows of faceless tailors busy at work on their sewing machines seem oblivious to the festivities all around. The voice-over of dialogues playing in the background echoes their hard work, patience and perseverance as they continue to toil while living in miserable conditions.

Ishaa Saha was impressed with the realistic detailing of the pandal’s interior which resembled any neighbourhood tailor’s modest workshop.

Rooting for the club is: Ishaa Saha. With two big releases lined up on Panchami, a busy Ishaa Saha dropped by at Hindustan Park Sarbojonin for The Telegraph Puja Premier League. She was greeted by a huge crowd of locals, fans and pandal-hoppers who had turned out in large numbers to catch a glimpse of their favourite Tollywood actress. Looking bright and festive in a crimson tissue silk sari, Ishaa became an instant hit with the audience as she addressed them and urged them to cheer for the club along with her. The pretty actress enthusiastically participated in a group discussion with sponsors and committee members and won the hearts of all present with her charming presence and dazzling smile. “Let us enjoy this Puja to the fullest, because we deserve it after the last two years filled with anxiety and unhappiness. Let us forget all our sorrows and worries of the previous years and spend happy times with our loved ones once again,” said the Kacher Manush and Karnasubarner Guptodhon star.

Ishaa said that movies are an important part of the total entertainment package of the Pujas, and asked her fans to go watch her Puja releases Kacher Manush and Karnasubarner Guptodhon in between pandal- hopping and feasting with family and friends.

Festive fervour: The mood at Hindustan Park Sarbojonin was one of excitement, unfettered joy and celebration. The Puja Premier League show was a mixed bag of fun, adda and entertainment that was totally managed, anchored and participated by the ladies of the locality. The evergreen agomoni song Bajlo tomar alor benu was sung in chorus by all the ladies in the group. A discussion on ‘how it feels to get back to life as usual after the pandemic’ touched on aspects of the lockdown that helped changed our perception of life in general, more often than not in positive ways. Ishaa Saha chipped in with spontaneous comments that offered a fresh perspective on ‘life as usual’ in a post-Covid scenario. A poetry presentation on gender discrimination laid bare the ironies of a society that ceremoniously worships a Mother Goddess but refuses to treat its women with respect.
