What to expect: The department of textile science, clothing and fashion studies at J.D. Birla Institute is organising Handloom Week, in association with The Telegraph, in support of weavers and artisans of India. The endeavour is to promote handloom textiles among the student fraternity and raise awareness about exquisite Indian textiles. The celebration of handloom weaves and products also aims to restore traditional Indian textiles and craftsmanship to their former glory and to provide students, academicians, researchers, teachers and artisans with a platform to share their knowledge and discuss and understand the needs of the sector.

The celebrations shall include a national seminar on Traditional Textiles — A Pride of India, with experts from different parts of the country deliberating on a variety of Indian textiles. A two-day exhibition-cum-sale of various handloom products by artisans and weavers from Bengal and the rest of India and an inter-institute poster competition by students are other highlights of the event.

What to expect: Relish delicacies from food hotspots from across the city such as Aminia, Mezban Restaurant, Kabuliwala, Dilruba, Go Lebanese, Nalin Chandra Das & Sons, Parameswar Kulfi Wala, 36 Banjon, Nabadwip Khir Doi and The Biryani Story.

Organiser speak: “Ecospace approximately has a workforce of 16,000 and Ambuja Neotia Group has taken this initiative of celebrating Poila Baisakh (New Year) with all of them by having some of the best food participants from all over Calcutta come and serve Bengal’s delicacy during this three-day event starting from tomorrow and continuing till coming Friday, from noon to 7pm,” said Ramesh Pandey, vice president, Ambuja Neotia Group.
