The Bengal Rowing Club (BRC) Wesco Sports Carnival, in association with The Telegraph, was a highly anticipated event that took place between December 10 and 17. The tournament saw participation from 10 esteemed clubs from around Kolkata in different sporting fields.
A total of 13 sports were featured in the tournament, including bridge, cricket, futsal, poker, chess, swimming, badminton, table tennis, shooting, squash, snooker, pool, and darts. In addition to these, there was also a fashion show that was held as part of the carnival for the first time. The theme for the fashion show was loungewear, and it was an energetic and entertaining event, with participants from all the clubs strutting their stuff on the ramp. The winners of the fashion show were the Royal Calcutta Golf Club, with The Saturday Club finishing runners-up. The children of BRC Sports also made an appearance, walking the ramp and showcasing their talent as the future of the club.
In addition to the various sports that were held, the carnival also featured some fun events. The phuchka eating competition saw The Calcutta Swimming Club emerge as the winner, while The Bengal Rowing Club finished second. The jalebi eating competition was fiercely contested, with Dalhousie Institute ultimately coming out on top. There were also team events that involved guessing the ingredients and Cotton’s drinking, which were enjoyed by all the teams.

Overall, the tournament was won by the Bengal Rowing Club, with Dalhousie Institute finishing as the runnersup. BRC emerged winners in several sports, including swimming, table tennis, chess, squash, snooker, and darts. DI was the winner in shooting, cricket, badminton and futsal, while the Tollygunge Club emerged victorious in bridge, and The Calcutta Swimming Club won in poker.
“We are so proud of the success of this year’s sports carnival,” said Rohit Kedia and Arpit Dhandhania, the carnival conveners. “The level of participation and sportsmanship on display was truly inspiring, and we are grateful to all the clubs and players for making this such a special event,” they added.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by former cricketer Arun Lal. Deepak Jalan, president, BRC, and Anand Daga, sports convener, who were also present at the ceremony, were congratulated by all the club captains. The BRC Wesco Sports carnival was a resounding success, with many participants and spectators alike praising the event for its smooth running and exciting competition.
