The rooftop get-together on a chilly evening was just perfect to usher in the Christmas festivities. Husna-Tara Prakash, owner and managing director at Glenburn Tea Estate & Boutique Hotel, Darjeeling, was a wonderful host. ‘’I am very sentimental about Christmas. So, preparing a beautiful festive calendar for the Penthouse has always been a priority. This is the first event that we are having to start off the festivities. So, this is our annual Christmas party,’’ she said. Seen here with Isha Daga, digital creator and founder at Design Social
Elizabeth Decker, author of Wrap me up in an Indian Quilt, was spotted among the guests. ‘’This is an amazing night. I love the penthouse, it’s a one-of-a-kind place. The food is great. The musicians are a part of my life. I’m out of words,’’ she said
The menu for the evening was curated by celebrity chef Shaun Kenworthy. Speaking about the Christmas-special spread, he said: ‘’When I think about Christmas, I think about traditions that I grew up with in the UK. If you think about festivals in India then everybody has their favourite things that they grew up with. So, the menu is very British. We have cooked meats and salads. There are a lot of meats and vegetarian options. We have some old Kolkata pork sausages. We have whole roast bekti, turkey stuffing and little phuchkas being passed around with prawn cocktail. They are something that we have had every Christmas, so I can never really forget that.’’
Pinky Kenworthy (left) described the food as ‘fabulous’. ‘’It’s beautiful because as we all know Glenburn Penthouse is probably the most beautiful place in the city. But obviously combined with the chill in the air, the music, the mulled wine, and the food, it’s fabulous. One of the first Christmassy things I have been to this season and I think it’s a great way to start,’’ said the celebrity stylist and artist
“Well it’s great to be outdoors in Kolkata,” said Paul Walsh (left), founder, Jungle Crows. “Winter is here and it’s nice to have some good food. It’s a real treat to be here. Victoria Memorial in the distance lit up. So, it’s very special.”
‘’It’s beautiful. Glenburn is an amazing place. It feels like you are kind of stepping back in time but also enjoying the company. Amazing food curated by amazing people who understand food, meeting friends, everyone’s a little dressed up. It’s kind of a nice way to celebrate the evening and the party season,’’ said Shannon Jhunjhunwala (left), president, Kolkata International Women’s Club.
The evening was made all the more special with live music being performed by young musicians
Garlic and Thyme Chicken Breast, Balsamic Garlic Beef Tenderloin, and Pork Sausage were among the top picks on the menu. The vegetarian spread included Jacket Potato, Pesto Paneer and Chilli Butter Garlic Corn Cobs, Beetroot Labneh and Tomato Salsa
