Nearly 2,000 people attended the Future Hope annual Mela at Rowland Road, themed on one of its core values — “care”. “Beginning with the creative decoration of our compound put up by our children and the food made by our staff, care was visible in almost everything,” said Sujata Sen, CEO of Future Hope.

The Mela had a line-up of innovative games, lip-smacking food, cultural performances and, of course, a series of kiosks showcasing art and craft, like quilts, photo frames, jewellery, bags, laptop covers, coasters and plants. The food counter was much sought-after as the winter evening provided the right appetite for dry chilli chicken, peas kachori, samosas, mojito, cakes and cookies.

In the performances, little students appealed to the world about the suffering children face during wars by singing Heal The World and ended with a brilliant show of gymnastics. Among those who attended were Andrew Fleming, British deputy high commissioner in Calcutta, artiste Chittrovanu Mazumdar and his wife, shipping bigwig captain J.S. Gill, businesswoman Indira Bhattacharya, Mongrace director Sanjana Vakharia, and a group of Dutch school students who put up a surprise dance item that played out to Sauda khara khara.
