Kolkata is all set to host its very own Entertainer’s Cricket League with several popular names from the Bengali entertainment industry trying their luck.

The captains meet took place on Saturday at the Outram Club, where the rules and regulations were finalised. The two-day tournament will be played on the club premises between November 26 and November 27. My Kolkata is the digital media partner.

The event’s chief organiser, Pratyush Dasgupta, said six teams will participate in the league. Two teams of musicians and singers, two teams of actors, one comprising popular radio jockeys and one team of senior officials of Machino Techno, the main sponsor, will play.

Dasgupta came up with the idea some time back while talking to friends. “Six teams will play 10 nine-over matches,” he said.

Among the popular names who will feature in the tournament are singers Monomoy Bhattacharya, Gourab Sarkar and Kinjal Chatterjee, actors Kaushik Chakraborty, Suman Bannerjee and Indrasish Roy, RJ Arvind and RJ Neel.

Each team will include a woman player and both the bowling and batting will have to be opened by them. The matches will be played between 3pm and 8pm on Saturday, November 26 and Sunday, November 27. There’s no entry fee for spectators.

An upbeat Sonal Jindal, Machino Techno MD, is hopeful that the event will boost business. Once a passionate horse rider and a sports lover, Jindal said, “It is an opportunity to showcase Maruti’s new SUV to the who’s who in town.”

Dhiraj Krishan, the regional manager of Nexa, agreed. “This is an apt way and time to connect and communicate with the local people and gauge their needs and deliver the best product,” he said.
