To celebrate the Yuletide season in a traditional spirit, FICCI FLO Kolkata organised a musical presentation for its members on December 12, titled ‘Melodies in a Monument’, at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Kolkata Symphony Orchestra along with Calcutta International School choir presented a performance of Christmas carols. Attendees of the event were treated to a mesmerising musical experience as the notes of the Western instruments in the backdrop of the 175-year-old heritage building created an unforgettable ambience.
The junior choir group of Calcutta International School lent their vocals in unison to the instruments played by over 30 musicians of Kolkata Symphony Orchestra. Along with the FLO members, the event was also attended by children of School On Wheels, Suryakiran and Ektara, as a part of FICCI FLO’s philanthropic attempt to spread the festive cheer among all.
Katharina Duran, a student of Kolkata Symphony Orchestra, began the musical presentation with Silent Night. The orchestra and choir joined her and presented other carols like We Wish You a Merry Christmas. The group also presented popular retro Bollywood numbers like Ek pyaar ka nagma hai and other popular songs like Que sera, sera. Choral Fantasy by Beethoven was a part of the presentation, too. Besides the choir, Tathagata Mukherjee, pianist and choir master of Calcutta International School, wove magic in the melodious ambience with his piano and instrumentals.
