The Calcutta Swimming Club clinched the winners’ trophy in badminton after putting up a tough fight against their contenders, The Saturday Club.

Emerging as the runners-up last year, The Saturday Club kept its promise with hopes held high as they were the winners in squash this year. Captain Siddharth Kothari said, “Victory is one of the sweetest sounds on the squash court. Having been runners-up at the last CSC carnival, the pressure was on.”

CSC emerged as the winner in swimming. Ashish Jhunjhunwala, (second from left), swimming captain, said, “Swimming is the heart and soul of the wonderful institution. Thanks to our swimmers, veterans, seniors, and juniors, and coaches, we defended our trophy with tough competition from BRC and Tolly. We always count on our talented swimmers to bring laurels to CSC as it is second home to most of them. The races were smoothly executed in league stages and finals thanks to the sub-committee with a lot of co-operation from all participating clubs.”

Club Speak

Rajat Mintri has been the badminton and futsal captain of The Calcutta Swimming Club for the past decade, besides being thoroughly engaged in the Inter-club Sports Carnival. “It was an exhilarating tournament with CSC finishing on top, beating their arch rivals The Saturday Club. This tournament is getting bigger and better and a big thank you to all the participating clubs.”

“The second edition of the CSC Sports Carnival was an absolute delight, with week-long competitive sports across various disciplines and camaraderie amongst the sportsmen of the clubbing circuit. There was also a personal moment of emotion and pride when the club committee decided to give me a lifetime achievement award for my contribution to sports from a junior to a veteran now. Also being awarded by the carnival committee with The Champion of Champion Award for the second consecutive year amongst 1,000 participants was the icing on the cake,” said Siddharth Jhunjhunwala, president of Calcutta Swimming Club.
