Where words fail, music speaks.” — Hans Christian Andersen. This statement is genuinely true to its bones given the expansive takers and lovers of music in Kolkata. Metal gig managers Kolkata Metalheads organised a metal concert titled the Big Horn Metal Festival Chapter 2 at the 35 Bar & Lounge at The Samilton Hotel in the heart of Kolkata on December 11.

As fiery and passionate as the musicians were, equally passionate was the crowd. Kolkata Metalheads celebrated their ninth anniversary with a blast as Kolkata metalheads joined this celebration with the performance of 10 bands from around the city. Dark Grinding, Gray Souls, Cerebral Recalibration, Fire on the Rodeo, Moving in Circlez, Disquietude Vengeance, Pockets of Resistance, Shrap, Funkiz Junkiz and the organiser Anirban Bhowmick’s band Facebroke set the stage and mood with some electro hardcore, heavy metal, death metal, rock n’ roll and many more genres.

Funkiz Junkiz got the crowd all nostalgic with their cover of Come Together by The Beatles. Facebroke played their original songs. We spotted some cool T-shirts and other merchandise by Vibrations (fashion accessories store on Mirza Ghalib Street). Guests enjoyed the gig with some great food.

Organiser speak

“We have worked with more than 120 bands for the past nine years. This December 11 we celebrated our ninth birthday and it was really special. I hope to enhance metal consciousness by spreading the performance of metal, make small skit shows at rehabilitation centres where people really need it, organise more club shows and involve students to join these events as metal mirrors what our society stands for and unearths a certain kind of brutality our generation witnesses,” said Anirban Bhowmick, organiser of Big Horn Music Festival 2 and drummer of the band Facebroke.
