A few weeks ago, The Brewhive played host to D Album Tour featuring Dino James in association with t2. It was a night of hip-hop. Dino James, known for his Hindi raps and his role as a mentor for MTV Hustle Season 2, has come a long way. The rapper, singer, composer, storyteller and YouTube sensation always had a passion for songwriting. Coming from a humble background, Dino’s verses are packed with hard-hitting truths, gathered from real-life experiences. From self-doubt to being unapologetically honest, Dino has rapped about it all. This year, he signed on with Def Jam India and dropped his debut album D, the tour of which he brought to the city.Opening the night was city-based artiste RVD, who performed some of his originals with DJ Koushik. And though The Spindoctor was on closing duties, EPR and J Trix also appeared to rap a few lines.
Sanjay Meriya, aka The Spindoctor, was the man behind the decks, giving rappers beats to perform on.
Dino’s pal EPR went on stage to rap a few lines. “Dino is not only a talented individual but an amazing human being. His lyricism is a perfect blend of relatability coupled with hook-melodies that have a high retention rate,” he said.
City boy J Trix too rapped a few lines. When he was called on stage, he dropped a free verse with Dino.
New face in the hip-hop industry RVD was the opening act. “Dino James is very versatile with his flow. We imagine and write out a song but people like him are inspirational because he speaks about real stuff. These guys are doing so much for the community and opening for him was fun,” he said.
The Brewhive’s in-house DJ Koushik kept the audience warm before the show and even played alongside RVD.
The crowd was pumped up as they heard Dino James live for the first time in Calcutta.
Meghdut Roychowdhury dropped in for the gig. “Hustle 2.0 is taking the hip-hop scene from the underground to the mainstream and it’s a pleasure to see the squad bosses riling audiences up nationally through their performances. It was good to catch up with EPR backstage after ages,” he said.
(L-R) Abhinav Jaiswal (co-owner of The Brewhive), Polomi Polo, Shilpi Sharma and Vijyant Shah (the other co-owner of The Brewhive) were present. “Dino James is one of the most talented Indian hip-hop artistes I have ever come across. His music is good and so are his lyrics. He is definitely an upcoming youth icon for music lovers,” said Vijyant.
