The Caper Maniac Crew hosted the third edition of their event Defeat Your Feet on June 18, at Rabindra Bhawan in Dum Dum.The cultural event, which hosted dancers from around the country, showcased a wide range of styles, with participants performing as solo, duos and groups, and competing to take home the winning title. From waacking to hip-hop, breaking to fusion choreographies, the dancers left nothing behind in the day-long event.
The Caper Maniac Crew, formed on April 11, 2016, is a street and movement-oriented dance crew from Kolkata. They recently achieved the prestigious Silver Award for West Bengal. In addition to their accomplishments, the crew has launched this event which aims to uplift the stage dance scene and bring together individuals from all generations in the community. It serves as a platform not just for competition, but also for the progress and advancement of every dancer.

Judges Akshit Juyal (Dehradun, extreme left) and Sangram Mukhopaddhay (Kolkata, second from left) with the winner and runners-up for the Solo Jr category. While Bani Biswas (second from right) won this category, Shruti Sarkar (centre) was the first runner-up followed by Ishita Dari (third from left) who was the second runner-up. “I am so happy to see that this event was pulled off quite well for its third edition. I hope all the dancers present take these art forms forward so we can keep doing what we love doing the most,” said Sangram.
Souvik Mondol (left) was the winner of the Solo Sr round. The Different Guy was the first runner-up while Vishu Scorpion was the second runner-up. Shemon & Sanjita (right, in red) won the award under the Duet and Trio category where Rahul and Raju placed as the first runner-up and The Indian Animated Crew was the second runner-up.
Rhythm and Beats took the big winning award home under the category of Crew. They were up against other crews like UD Gang who were first runner-up and NYD Zone who were second runner-up.
The special guests invited for the show were (L-R) Spill Freak, DJ Valey, Shane and chief guest Sambo Mukherjee. “I personally think the quality could be a bit better. These forms of dance are an international art and with hard work and persistence it can get better,” said Sambo.
After the prize distribution, brothers Sambo and Sangram shared the stage together for an impromptu session, where they danced against and with each other.
UD Gang put up one of the most energetic performances, which had the audience in splits.
To wrap up the event Caper Maniac Crew did an Avengers-themed dance to the track Defeat Your Feet, rapped by Spill Freak.
