Popular hangout Café B60, on Motilal Nehru Road near Priya Cinema, has put together its maiden art exhibition featuring six nationally and internationally acclaimed artists. Having recently refurbished itself to accommodate a permanent, well laid-out and well-lit art gallery, the cafe now intends to display the works of both renowned and upcoming artists around the year. The gallery also aims to be a creative space for workshops, musicals, open mics and other artistic, interactive endeavours. The current show, being held in memory of noted artist and adman Amit Ghosh, has on display an eclectic mix of 12 paintings by Sekhar Roy, Subrata Das, Swapan Kumar Saha, Malay Kumar Das, Shyamal Mukherjee and Sekhar Kar. The works on show reflect a wide diversity of subjects and themes ranging from daily life, its activities, COMING UP divinity and spirituality to a joyous celebration of nature, love and relationships. Comprising mainly human figures and landscapes, the paintings are tastefully framed and are ready to adorn a wide array of spaces, from homes and offices to hotels, eateries and clubs. The paintings being showcased are predominantly done in acrylic on canvas and will be on display at Café B60 till June 11 from 2pm-8pm. “I have curated multiple art exhibitions in the past and it was my forte but of late my focus had shifted towards getting Café B60 off the ground. To me, it’s a baby that needs nurturing. Just a few months back I had this germ of an idea to marry both my passions together and voila we are displaying the works of six artists already. The journey to get back to art would not have been easy without the support of artist Malay Kumar Das, who is also a fierce friend. Art has always been a very exciting business; it’s very dynamic and there is something new coming up every day and there is always something new to learn. I’m glad I have come back to this and my head is already swarming with many more ideas and formats,” said art curator and owner of Café B60, Sanchita Ghosh, while speaking at the exhibition’s inauguration.
