Music lovers in Kolkata were shattered when they heard that Bryan Adams was touring India again, but was not visiting the City of Joy. Co-founders of RhythmBox, Anshul Chauhan and Dhruv Todi, in association with Whats In D Name Live and Zomato, would not let history repeat itself, and instead, are making history. On August 6, the event management company announced that Bryan Adams is making his way to the city with his ‘So Happy It Hurts’ tour (HSBC tour) for the first time bringing his six strings to Aquatica on December 8. Originally, the tour was supposed to kick off in Shillong on December 10.

What the plan is

To be taking place at a venue like Aquatica, RhythmBox expects at least 20,000-plus people of all ages. The music, which will take place before and after the leading man performs, will include live performers from the city. “Kolkata is known for its rock bands, so we are going to try and integrate them,” says Anshul Chauhan, co-founder of RhythmBox.

The shift from electronic to live

After receiving such amazing news, it only made sense to ask Anshul Chauhan, co-founder of RhythmBox, about their shift from electronic music to live. For nine years, the events company has been curating electronic dance music events, but Anshul and his partner Dhruv were “always looking out for that one booking that will take things up a notch.” “You have to get the full city involved, because it is tough for such artistes to come to Kolkata or such things to align,” says Anshul.

Building up to the concert

As we count the days to the concert, Anshul also assures that they will try and integrate a lot of rock and live music events in different outlets around the city. “We’ll be looking at Bryan Adams Tribute nights, rock nights and more, because Kolkata loves rock. After we execute something like this, it gives us opportunities to book more such artistes,” he adds, while keeping the names under wraps.
