British Deputy High Commission Kolkata, in collaboration with the Indo-British Scholars’ Association (IBSA) and Earth Day Network, celebrated World Environment Day 2023 by honouring the winners of a nationwide environmental photography competition. The event took place at the British Deputy High Commission in Calcutta on June 2.

The annual photography competition, launched in April, targeted two age groups — junior (under 18 years) and senior (above 18 years). Contestants competed in three categories: Plastic Pollution, Animals and Habitats, and Our Changing Planet. The panel of judges included renowned nature, wildlife, and conservation photographer Dhritiman Mukherjee; Karuna Singh, regional director of Asia for Earth Day Network; and Rajarshi Banerji, an acclaimed wildlife photographer and Nikon brand creator.

The event not only recognised the winners’ outstanding photographic skills but also highlighted the urgency of addressing environmental challenges and finding sustainable solutions to protect our planet.
