Last week will be remembered as Mumbai's fashion takeover for years to come. What kicked off with a grand Dior fashion show at the Gateway of India, concluded with the launch of Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), attended by stars from across the world. The NMACC weekend was nothing short of a fashion extravaganza, with all the attendees putting their best foot forward. While some helmed this as an iconic moment in Indian fashion, many drew parallels with the Met Gala.
NMACC celebrated Indian culture, craftsmanship, the heritage of art and performances and that led to some of the most stunning interpretations of India in Fashion, that celebrities channelled on the pink carpet on Day Two.
Here are some of our favourites.
If there is one celebrity who has been upping her fashion game slowly and steadily, its Bhumi Pednekar. The actress is coming out of her comfort zone and experimenting with looks more than ever and at the NMACC gala night she smashed it off the park in an Anamika Khanna structured gown with silver embroidery and patchwork. She teamed this dramatic outfit with an even more dramatic hair accessory that comprised a unique Egyptianstyle headpiece with multiple teardrop-style stones hanging that formed her earrings and maangtika. She dropped jaws in her neverseen-before avatar that garnered praises from Deepika Padukone who wrote “Oh Stop It!” with a heart sign to Shobita Dhulipala who commented: “Wow man..this is jaw dropping kinda beautiful. Majestic actually”.
Rocking a stunning midnight blue gown by designer Rahul Mishra, Karisma Kapoor made everyone take note of her statementy and stunning haath phool gloves that definitely stole the show. The beautiful and delicate piece of jewellery had chains in gold that were snug on her hands. This was definitely one of our fave accessory picks
Looking elegant as ever, Deepika Padukone looked beautiful in an intricately and heavily embroidered Anamika Khanna costume. The outfit fitted her like a dream. Those red lips! It, was, however, her super edgy, subtle and short maangtika that we are crushing on. Sleek yet stylish, we love!
Would you ever dare to wear a billowy gown with gajra on your head? Well, Mouni Roy just did and looked beautiful. The touch of the very summery flower on her hair, worked India in Fashion theme beautifully.
Kriti Sanon enchanted everyone on the pink carpet dressed in a Monisha Jaising Benarasi cut-out gown featuring a super thighhigh slit but up close, our eyes were on her stunning intricately designed golden nail covers that she wore over black goth nails. Another actress who let her hands do the talking was Ananya Panday who rocked stunning golden rings with filigree work on her phalanges
Natasha Poonawalla was dipped in gold from head-to-toe, almost like her appearance at the Met Gala, where she had chosen a golden Sabyasachi creation. Closer home at NMACC, more than her Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla costume, we had our eyes fixated on her Schiaparelli swirl platform thigh-high boots that had layers of metallic soles. Look at that beauty!
