An exhibition of sustainable fashion and lifestyle labels, Artistry has brought together six home-grown and eco-friendly brands dedicated to everyday luxury and fine living. Hosted at Deshaj Store & Cafe in Ballygunge, it was inaugurated on June 9 by television actresses Ananya Guha and Alokananda Guha.
The show is divided into four categories of exhibits — ‘living fashion’, ‘handmade and organic products’, ‘sustainable living’ and ‘homemade bakery products’. On entering the exhibition hall, visitors are greeted with a range of attractive cushions and scarves with kantha embroidery work. Designed by Nilanjana Ghose, each creation is intricately hand-embroidered with artwork inspired by Indian epics, folklore and folk art from various parts of the world. Her textile designs have also drawn inspiration from abstract designs, nature, everyday life and many more. From cold-processed soaps to home decor items and functional art pieces, the entire range of products on show have been crafted in harmony with nature. The Shibori saris designed by Papri Basak are pure works of art, each tie-and-dyed by hand on breathable, natural fabrics. Ranging from earrings and finger-rings to neckpieces, pendants, bracelets and bangles, each piece by costume jewellery brand Anki-bunki Aditi reflects contemporary styles catering to the tastes of the modern, urban woman. Ritaarko explores the rich cultural heritage of India through traditional embroidery and fabrics. To satisfy the hunger pangs of shoppers, there are homemade, colourful tarts in various flavours by Cakelicious, a home bakery. The exhibition is on till June 20.“With Artistry we are trying to absorb as many ideas as we can from whatever interesting creations we come across. Artistry prefers brands that use sustainable ingredients and raw materials with eco-friendly packaging. Through this show, we wish to encourage environment-friendly practices like low waste, reuse and upcycling. We are also promoting brands who are trying to create an alternate and sustainable source of income for unemployed, marginal women,” said co-founder of Deshaj Store & Café, Sonali Chakraborty.
