With Linkin Park announcing their new co-vocalist Emily Armstrong, the electronic rock band has been making waves after a hiatus of seven years. While they’ve also been on tour, none of their paths have yet led to Kolkata. So, the city attended the next best thing. Anthracite, a Linkin Park cover band from Mumbai, graced the stage at Hard Rock Cafe Kolkata on September 28. With back-to-back covers of Linkin Park’s originals, the absence of love was not experienced by the band
@linkinpark/InstagramA little past 10pm, the members of Anthracite — Abhishek Nair (vocals), Sharukh Makani (guitarist), Shubham Annamwar (guitarist), Dev Rk (drums), Mehar Chumble (DJ) and Deep Rk (bassist) approached the stage, kicking off a show of nostalgia
Soumyajit DeyThis was not the first time the band was performing on the HRC stage in the city, and when the band played intros of songs like Castle of Glass, Papercut or New Divide, the audience went wild
Soumyajit DeyThe crowd was packed to the end of the venue, with hardcore Linkin Park fans headbanging or singing along. The screech and growling vocal sounds also made an impression on the listeners, which was a staple Chester Bennington (now an Emily Armstrong) move
Soumyajit DeyFans of all ages were present for the show just to unite and listen to their favourite nu-rock cover songs. Deep Rk even took the time in the middle of their set to say, ‘Thank you to the parents who are introducing these young kids to rock music’
Soumyajit DeySagar Chatterjee was present for the gig in his Linkin Park merch. ‘The band were great on stage. They got the entire Linkin Park feel and got the crowd going. After a long time, I felt like I was in a hard rock place,’ said Chatterje, who works with HSBC
Soumyajit DeySaurav Roy, a rager in the front row, expressed his excitement after the event, describing it as "Amazing, crazy, fantastic and magnificent”. “I've been following Linkin Park since the early 2000s’, and Somewhere I Belong was the first single I heard. Hybrid Theory and Meteora are always on repeat, and not a day goes by without me listening to their explosive sound,” he said
Soumyajit DeyYou know you have the best company when you wear matching tees and attend the same live gigs together!
