Anshul Mishra and Anaahat Bindra shine at the West Bengal State Championship

Tollygunge Club hosted the fifth edition of the BGA tournament alongside the Mahitosh Ray Memorial Amateur Open

The fifth edition of the BGA West Bengal State Championship & Mahitosh Ray Memorial Amateur Open 2024 concluded on September 12 at Tollygunge Club. The event, co-sanctioned by the IGU East Zone Junior Feeder Tour and the Bengal Golf Association (BGA), was held in memory of the late Mahitosh Ray, an avid golfer. Anshul Mishra and Anaahat Bindra emerged as the champions in their respective categories and will represent the state in the National Games.

Anshul Mishra, the West Bengal state champion in the Amateur category, finished at 5 under-135. Mishra also won the Mahitosh Ray Memorial Trophy for Best Gross Score. The tournament, played over three rounds, was a WAGR-ranked event. Mishra won the WAGR Round with a total of 5 under par, including three birdies. Sandeep Yadav finished second in the Amateur category with a score of 1 under par. Joysurjo Dey, who finished third in the second round, ended with a total score of 1 over par and secured second place in the WAGR Round.

Anaahat Bindra, the West Bengal State Champion in the Ladies’ category, finished with a total score of 149. In the ladies category of WAGR Round, Sinjini Mukherjee won with a score of 226, while Bindra was the runner-up with a score of 229. Ranjit Singh won the Mid-Amateur category with a score of 4 under par. Sumit Kakkar finished second with a score of 167, and G. Suresh Sharma placed third with 172.

In the Seniors’ category, Gaurav Ghosh took the championship with a final score of 4 over-144. Sumit Banerjee and Captain Sovit Chakraborty finished second and third with scores of 170 and 181,respectively. Captain Chakraborty also won the Super Seniors’ category, followed by Subroto Kundu.

The NETT category had a tie for first place among G. Suresh Sharma, Gaurav Ghosh, Ranjit Singh, Captain Sovit Chakraborty, Sumit Banerjee, and Sumit Chakraborty. Col. Chandrakant from the Mid-Amateur category took second place.
