In an age where New Year’s Eve gatherings have become more about bustling crowds and flashy parties, the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC) is taking a step back, in favour of a more cosy and intimate setting. The club will savour the last few hours of 2023 with a relaxed evening, moving into New Year with grace and joy. This year’s party, presented by Johnnie Walker Refreshing Mixer, in association with My Kolkata, promises a unique celebration, different from any other venue in the city. RCGC, established 1829, is India’s oldest golf club and the first to be established outside Britain.

“Last year we had about 700 guests, with the Vyas Brothers, Sandeep and Sanjeev, performing. This year, we want it to be a much smaller affair. We have envisaged a more elegant and classy evening, primarily for our members, where everyone knows each other. We have a great line-up of artistes, with plenty of food and drinks to help people relax and unwind, welcoming the New Year on a pleasant note,” said Nirmal Agarwal, entertainment convenor, RCGC.

The night will begin at 9pm with multi-award winning Mumbai-based musician Prateek Bhaduri — Best Pop Artist in India Award by Radio City Freedom Awards — mesmerising audiences with his soulful voice.

DJ Shakey will also crank up the tempo with his peppy beats to make everyone groove into 2024. “Prateek is a very energetic performer, and DJ Shakey knows how to get the crowd moving. It will be an entertaining four-hour show,” Agarwal said.

The night will have a scrumptious spread by Don Giovanni’s. The snacks menu and dinner buffet will comprise some of the eatery’s pop-picks favourites, including Dynamite Chicken, Tangra Old Style Chilli Chicken, and Hara Bhara Kebab. “The entry includes the charges for food, so no one will have to stand in a line to purchase coupons or get a drink. Guests will be served snacks at the comfort of their tables, while the dinner will be a buffet,” added Agarwal. Families and groups of eight can also book special cabanas, which come with an exclusive butler and personalised service.

The midnight moment will be marked by a fireworks show, making for a crackling welcome to 2024. “Nowadays, most clubs have large gatherings, where most people aren’t even members. We aren’t chasing footfall numbers. We want to provide a better space and service to those celebrating with us,” said Gaurav Ghosh, captain, RCGC.

Details:

The charges will be Rs 2,750 for members, and Rs 4,000 for guests. Members can also book a Cabana for 8 people, at an additional Rs 28,000. For bookings, call +91 6289615409 / 033-40621288; or send an email to newyeareve@rcgc.in.
