The honorary consulate of Brazil organised a reception to welcome the ambassador Kenneth Felix Haczynski Da Nobrega.
The reception was held on the lawns of The Kenilworth that were done up in the yellow and green colours of the flag. On the music system too Brazilian pop music was being played. The ambassador pointed out that there had been several missions to India over the last few months from Brazil. “We are trying to increase our contacts here. This country is growing at a breakneck speed. We too are among the top 10 economies in the world. So we need to engage more deeply,” he told t2.

Da Nobrega also spoke of the common passion that the city shares with Brazil, a football powerhouse that enjoys an immense support base in Calcutta. “Soccer and music are the two ways of making children from disadvantaged backgrounds connect with the social mainstream. Every favela has a chamber orchestra that plays classical and Brazilian music,” he pointed out.

It was the first night of the ambassador’s three-day trip to the city, during which he held meetings with the local chambers of commerce. “Brazil means business. It is much more than samba and football,” smiled honorary consul Pradeep Khemka.
