What’s Christmas without the bustling winter carnivals and fetes that dot the social calendar? Dr Graham’s Homes, a 123-year educational institution in Kalimpong, organised ‘Christmas Carnival’ on December 17. The lawns of Birkmyre Hostel in Middleton Row came alive with a variety of food stalls, games, clothing and lively song and dance, drawing in crowds to revel in the joyous spirit of the season

So we thought it’s the right time to bring back the charm of the hills, particularly Dr Graham’s Home. This year, we added two small but meaningful additions – Santa Claus and a choir. Our aim is twofold: to bring joy to the alumni and support the children by raising funds to enhance their learning experience,’ said Shane Calvert, chairman of the board of management

Returning from Chandigarh after 30 years in 2016, she volunteered to give back to the place that shaped her. “We support 150 children and offer free education to staff’s kids. This carnival helps raise funds for our estate of 120 buildings, including century-old hostels and a church. Maintenance is a big task. We start with kids as young as two-and-a-half years old, guiding them through Class XII and sometimes even beyond.” With her are Shane Calvert and Denise Smith
