For the first time in the history of Calcutta Club, children were part of the New Year’s Eve celebration, making it a family affair and adding more joy to the parting night of 2022. Spicing up the mood was amazing dance numbers by Carlyta Mouhini and Arijit Mondal, convincing members and guests to let their hair down. The dinner was a feast and worth mentioning is the systematic arrangement for the same that ensured no overcrowding. The midnight moment was less fussy with all members welcoming the new year with a Rabindrasangeet.

Music
Mumbai-based Carlyta Mouhini aka Maria rocked the stage from the minute she took over. With roots in Brazil, the performer started off with some familiar Spanish and Latin numbers and then she had the crowd under her spell when she sang her signature song, Senorita, from the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Post her act, local artiste Arijit Mondal infused nostalgia in the nippy air with golden hits by Kishore Kumar, R.D. Burman and other popular singers and composers
Star Trek
Actor Aparajita Adhya couldn’t resist the Senorita song and ran from a distance to dance to it. “I am generally out of the city during New Year’s Eve but since this time I was here I decided to party in a club,” said the Chini actress dressed in a blue gown and matching mask.
World Billiards Champion Sourav Kothari also dropped by to spend the last night of 2022 with his friends at the club. “I am not a party animal and I generally don’t go partying on 31st for personal reasons. But this time I thought of spending the day differently,” said Kothari.

Club speak
“This year we decided to make New Year’s Eve a family affair and hence allowed children as well.It has happened for the first time in the history of Calcutta Club. It’s important that children are part of the celebration with family,” said Pramit Kumar Ray, president of the club, accompanied by wife Sreya.
The president hits the gong as part of the club’s tradition.
Style Check
The Ferry family are visiting their relatives in India and they decided to party in traditional Indian clothes. So while the men choose dhoti and kurta the women opted for sari. Mou Ferry (second from left) said: “We thought everybody would be wearing Indian clothes but we are surprised.”
Sisters Samriddhi (left) and Shrishti Malhotra ditched the traditional glitzy partywear and partied hard. “Bling is never our style,” said Samriddhi.
Dressed in a dark green sequinned dress, Sonya Chowdhury said: “We are looking forward to some great music and fun. I wish 2023 brings good tidings for all of us.”
A lot of women turned up in saris to party. Ronita Majumder (right) and Tina Mallick said: “Women look the sexiest in a sari and we wanted to party in it.”
College student Devanshi Mehta looked chic in a leather tube dress. She said: “Last two years I celebrated with my friends at house parties but this year I decided to spend time with my mom.”
All set to party, Pamela Dutta stood out for her gown with golden detailing.
Mumbai-based Shivangi Sinha (right) was in the city to celebrate New Year. Sporting an LBD with a cut-out, she said, “It’s always great to be back home and spend time with friends and family.”
Fun quotient
Since the party was open for kids, paper caps and whistles were distributed and the adults had fun with it too.
Midnight moment
The midnight moment was quite different at Calcutta Club. The president along with members of the core committee and other guests climbed on the stage and led the crowd in singing Rabindrasangeet.
Sip n Bite
The dinner was a lavish affair as promised. From a warm Leek Soup accompanied by assorted breads to an elaborate salad station with Greek and Italian salads to cold cuts, the starters were grand.
The mains had a mix of veg and non-veg options including Mexican Rice, Roast Mutton, Suckling Pig, Parsley Potatoes, Prawn with BBQ Sauce and Tomato-based Grilled Bekti.
Traditional desserts like Plum Cake and Orange Souffle brought an end to the lavish affair.
