inDrive, a global mobility and urban services platform, announced the launch of the Driving Naari program in Calcutta’s JW Marriott, in collaboration with Rakshak Foundation Kolkata. The company’s brand ambassador, actor Vikrant Massey was present at the event. He praised the initiative and congratulated the participants.

This initiative aims to encourage women by providing them with equal opportunities in the driving profession through electric vehicles. The program is designed to empower underprivileged women to become professional drivers and provide them with “livelihoods with dignity.” By offering GPS-enabled electric scooters to all drivers under the Driving Naari initiative in Calcutta, inDrive is also contributing to a cleaner environment.

Vikrant Massey, dressed in casuals, told t2, “I think this is a very important initiative considering the current times. Between my wife and me, I drive because she’s lazy but in life, she is always at the steering wheel! This campaign, initiated by inDrive, is a testament to the company’s commitment to challenging injustice and bringing about positive change in society. I am delighted to be a part of this initiative and proud to be associated with such a people-driven organisation.”

“This initiative is empowering women to break barriers and discover their full potential behind the wheel. It’s about bringing change. By encouraging women to embrace driving as a career, inDrive is not only transforming the ride-hailing industry but also paving the way for a future with more gender equality on the roads and ensuring that women can improve their lives and earn a living," said Avik Karmakar, senior GTM manager, South Asia of inDrive.

Country manager of inDrive, Pratip Mazumder said, “Women are excelling and achieving remarkable feats in their chosen fields, including driving. inDrive’s Driving Naari is a significant step towards gender-responsive electrification of two-wheeler fleets in India. With 15 women in Calcutta participating, our society is becoming more progressive, accepting women in traditionally gender-specific roles like driving. Education and financial freedom are two key ways of empowerment and with this initiative, we are equipping women with the latter.”
