Two men on a motorcycle shot dead Suman Rakshit, 21, at Patel Path near Moon City on the Dimna Road under Ulidih police station area on Wednesday morning.
Police said Suman, a resident of Patel Path, was returning home after working out at a local gym at around 9am.
Officer in-charge of Ulidih police station Chandra Shekhar Kumar said: “Two bike-borne criminals opened fire on the youth from a close range. We have started a probe and are trying to collect CCTV footage.”
As Suman collapsed, the sound of gunfire prompted locality residents to come out of their houses. A section of residents rushed the youth who lay in a pool of blood to hospital. At Tata Main Hospital, around 6km from the spot, doctors declared him as brought dead.

Suman’s shocked friends and relatives thronged the hospital after they came to know about the murder.
Police sources said the initial investigation points to the murder being a result of illegal cricket betting.
“In our initial investigation we have learnt that the reason of murder was an outcome of illegal betting during the recent India-Australia match,” an Ulidih police station official said under cover of anonymity. “Out investigation is on and we will soon arrest the culprits involved in the crime.”
Family sources said that after his graduation from Jamshedpur Worker's College in Mango, Suman used to assist his father in their fabrication and iron grill business.
'He used to manage the day-to -day affairs of the shop located at the ground floor of the building where they used to stay,” said a relative.
Neighbours said Suman was soft-spoken and helpful. He has a younger brother, who is in college.
