Young Innovators have developed rivers/pond cleaners and automatic accident detection and rescue system during the Jharkhand School Innovation Challenge (JH- SIC 2023) at IIT (Indian School of Mines- ISM) Dhanbad.

Students from selected schools, who are participating in the grand finale week of JH-SIC 2023, developed a conveyor belt-equipped apparatus to clean pond/ river waters and are also working on an automated accident detection system.

Executive officer of innovation centre of IIT (ISM), Naresh Vashisht Centre for Tinkering and Innovation (NVCTI) Ranjan Dasgupta, said: “The team of three students of DAV Public School, CCL Barkakhana (in Ramgarh district) comprising Divyansh Singh, Aryan Kumar Soni and Aditya Singh, all tenth graders worked on the solar power enabled ponds/rivers cleaner.”

Dasgupta also informed that the team of Savitri Devi DAV Public School Jamtara, composed of Class XI students Supriyo Roy, Aman Kumar and Anirban Bhattacharya developed multiple sensor-equipped automated accident detection rescue systems.

Explaining the working of ponds/river cleaner, Divyansh Singh, team leader of DAV Public School CCL NTS Barkakhana said: “The solar power operated pond cleaner will also be equipped with a water treatment plant and will float in the water bodies round the clock.”

“The conveyor belt attached at the anterior portion of the boat will collect water and send it to the water treatment plant where pure water will be generated while the waster products will be collected,” said Pramila Sinha, a teacher of the school who accompanied the students as coordinator during the JH-SIC.

“The greatest advantage of ponds/rivers cleaner over the existing system of pond cleaning is its cost efficiency as well as lesser human intervention as it will be operated through a mobile app and thus being comparatively safer,” said Aditya Singh, another member of the group.

Meanwhile, students of DAV Public School Jamtara team who have developed a model of automated accident detection and rescue system claimed that temperature sensor, alcohol sensor and eye blink sensor can help to detect not only accidents but also case of drunken driving, fire caused in vehicle after the accident or sabotage, driver taking nap while driving etc. Aman Kumar, one of the team members of the Jamtara-based school said: “Sensors fitted in the vehicles will send the signals to the nearby hospitals or police station during the time of accident prompting the authorities to take necessary action.”

Altogether 10 teams selected for the grand finale that began on Monday are working on their projects and winners will be awarded on Saturday.
