Chief minister Hemant Soren on Republic Day said his government would not tolerate those who undermine the Constitution and break the law.

“My government won’t cave in before bhid tantra (mobocracy),” Hemant, who hoisted the national flag at Police Lines in Dumka to mark the 71st Republic Day on Sunday, said.

Referring to the recent incidents in West Singhbhum’s Chaibasa and Lohardaga town, he said those had “deeply pained” him. In Burugulikera village of Chaibasa, seven tribals were murdered on January 19 whereas Lohardaga saw violence when a pro-CAA rally was attacked.

“Nobody can take the law in their hands. The government will work with sensitivity but at the same time not spare those vitiating the atmosphere,” the CM said. “I appeal to people to express their opinions within the ambit of the law and the Constitution and not resort to violence.”

“We are Indians first irrespective of religion or language...let us create a Jharkhand with all-round development of tribals, Dalits, the poor, the deprived, the backward and the minorities,” the CM said.

Hemant asked people to send their suggestions to the government for a new logo of the state government “that reflects its ethos” by February 11.
