The victim, identified as Ravi Gope, a resident of Gitilata in Pota, was returning home from Hata Chowk when the trailer, w3hich was coming from Jamshedpur, hit him.

The trailer driver had stopped the vehicle on the spot and sought help from passers-by to rush the victim to any hospital nearby. As the victim’s house was not far from the spot, his family members reached within 10 minutes and rushed him to Tata Main Hospital where the doctors on the emergency duty declared him as brought dead.

The victim was not wearing a helmet and was riding at a high speed, said Potka police station officer in-charge Ashok Ram. Gope sustained head injuries, which was the apparent reason behind his death.

OC Ram said the bike rider had rammed into the trailer coming from the opposite direction.

“Although the trailer driver had no fault in the mishap, we have arrested him and seized the trailer. We have registered a case in connection to the incident on the statement made by Govind Gope, brother of the victim,” said Ram.

The police later shifted the body to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem.

In the other mishap, two youths from the steel city were killed on the spot when the bike they were riding was hit by a sand-laden tractor near Muktipokhar on Kandra-Seraikela Road under Seraikela police station area, around 30km away from here, around 9pm on Sunday.

The two victims were identified as Rajan Gope, 22, and Dhakkan Patro, 23, both residents of Parsudih.

Seraikela OC Naveen Pandey said as soon as the mishap took place, the tractor driver fled the spot with the vehicle.
