At Palna, two persons were killed and in the Marine Drive incident eight persons were injured. Seven of the injured were taken to Tata Main Hospital and among them five persons were released after first-aid, but 35-year-old Tarannum Perveen and seven-year-old Mohammed Jaid have been admitted with major injuries.

The mishap at Chowka occurred when a pickup van hit a stationary truck at Palna on NH-33, around 35km from the steel city, killing the driver and the cleaner of the van on the spot. “The pickup van was coming from the Chandil side and moving towards Palna in Chowka. As the truck was parked along the unlit road, the driver of the pickup van couldn’t see the heavy vehicle and rammed into it. The driver was killed instantly and the cleaner succumbed to his injuries on his way to MGM Medical College Hospital,” said Singh.

The mishap on Marine Drive occurred when a speeding iron-plate laden trailer developed a snag in the vehicle’s brakes when it was coming from the Adityapur. When the brakes failed, the trailer hit two cars, an autorickshaw and a motorcycle before ramming into a residential quarter at Sakchi.
