Travel, learn and earn a few perks while you explore Jharkhand.
Tourists visiting the state can earn vouchers for a free three-day and two-night stay at any Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation (JTDC) establishment, as well as prize-money, simply by participating in the Destination Storytelling Contest.
JTDC has collaborated with the Institute of Hotel Management, Ranchi, for an online contest that requires participants to send a minute-long video clip, highlighting the speciality of a place that attracted him or her.
The contest aims at unveiling “unwritten cultural and historical tales about the designated places of Jharkhand or its unexplored places”.
“The intention is to popularise and boost tourism in the state by highlighting certain unknown attractions of the places,” state tourism director Sanjiv Kumar Besra told The Telegraph Online.
“The video can highlight unknown aspects of known spots or introduce unexplored ones,” he added.
A participant can send multiple entries, each comprising at least one beautiful photo of the place and a video of maximum one-minute duration, with subtitles or narration in Hindi or English.
There is no entry fee but a participant has to like and follow @jharkhandtourism at Instagram and also VisitJharkhand and IHMRanchi on Facebook and Twitter. The entries can be sent by email to jharkhandtourismcontest@gmail.com.
The entries will be uploaded and shared on social media, to be judged on two counts.
A jury will assess the creativity, depth of the story, information about the place, myths, life stories, agriculture, folk art and rituals, while the social reach will be taken into account through likes and comments on social media.
The winners of the first three slots will get Rs 5,100, Rs 2,100 and Rs 1,100 respectively.
They will also win vouchers for free stay at JTDC properties, valid for a year from the date of issue.
Entries will be received till 5pm on June 23 and results declared on June 30, the JTDC announced.
