Track upgrade heat on trains

Tatanagar-Bilaspur Passenger will remain cancelled from March 1 to 14 while the return train will not run between March 2 and 15

South Eastern Railway (SER) on Tuesday notified the cancellation of several passenger trains due to the ongoing modernisation of tracks and signalling system in various sections.

A list issued by Garden Reach, the Calcutta-based headquarters of SER, said the Tatanagar-Bilaspur Passenger will remain cancelled from March 1 to 14 while the return train will not run between March 2 and 15.

The Tatanagar-LTT Antyodaya Express will remain cancelled on March 3, 7, 10 and 14 while the return train will not run on March 5, 9, 12 and 16.

The Hazur Sahib Nanded-Santragachi Express, which travels via Tatanagar, will remain cancelled on March 4 and 11 while the return train won’t run on March 6 and 13.

The Howrah-CSMT (Mumbai) Express will not run on March 1 and 8 and the return train will remain cancelled on March 3 and 10.

The Sambalpur-Rourkela Passenger will remain cancelled from February 20 to March 14 while the Rourkela-Jharsuguda Passenger stands cancelled till March 14 from Tuesday.

The Jharsuguda-Sambalpur Passenger will remain cancelled from Wednesday till March 14. The Santragachi-Chennai Antyodaya Express will not run on March 11 while the return train will not leave Chennai on March 14.

SER chief public relations officer Sanjay Ghosh said, “Information has been given to various railway divisions regarding the cancellation of trains. The modernisation of tracks and signalling system will not only ensure safety of passengers, it will also help trains to improve punctuality.”

New AC superfast

To clear passenger rush, the SER has decided to run a pair of Superfast AC Special between Santragachi and Hapa.

The train, which will travel via Tatanagar, will leave Santragachi at 9.05pm on February 22 and will reach Hapa at 4.35pm on February 24. In the opposite direction, it will leave Hapa at 10.40am on February 25 and arrive at Santragachi at 05.45am on February 27.

Consisting of 14 AC-III coaches, the train will also halt at Kharagpur, Chakradharpur, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, Bilaspur, Raipur, Durg, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Badnera, Akola, Malkapur, Bhusawal, Jalgaon, Amalner, Nandurbar, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Nadiad, Ahmedabad, Surendranagar and Rajkot between its two final destinations.
