Subscribers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Jamshedpur secondary switching area (SSA) will get their bills through emails and text messages from July as part of its Go Green project.
The teleco major will discontinue printing of landline, broadband, fibre-to-home and mobile bills from July to make the system online.
The Jamshedpur secondary switching area has around 30,000 landline users and 12,000 broadband service users. It has over 10,000 postpaid mobile phone subscribers and 3,500 subscribers of the fibre-to-home service.
“As per the old practice, bills were generated and delivered to the subscribers through registered post. From July onwards, subscribers will get their details through emails and text messages. The initiative is eco-friendly, and will save costs and ensure transparency,” said Sanjeev Verma, the general manager of BSNL’s Jamshedpur secondary switching area.
He said details of around 98 per cent of the subscribers have been already updated in the system.
BSNL also listed two numbers, 0657- 234119 and 0657- 2341111, where subscribers who have not yet provided their mobile numbers and email IDs can provide their details.
Verma said if any subscriber wanted a duplicate or hard copy of the bill as a special requirement, they could obtain those through customer service centres at Bistupur Kadma Golmuri and in rural centres at Chaibasa, Chakradharpur and Noamundi.
