RPF on Tuesday sent a proposal to install 31 additional CCTV cameras across the railway station to enhance its security.

Presently there are 103 CCTV cameras maintained by the RPF installed at the strategic points in the railway station.

"We have sent the proposal to the Chakradharpur railway divisional authority having carried out a meticulous survey of the railway station. The proposed CCTV cameras will be of high resolution capable of covering images up to 200 meters," said Inspector of RPF, Tatanagar, Sanjay Kumar Tiwari while talking to The Telegraph Online.

The RPF inspector said that while maintaining the passengers' safety and security remain the top priority of the railway police, it is also their responsibility to ensure the security of railway properties from the criminal elements.

"As certain points in the railway station were lacking surveillance cover, we decided to install more surveillance cameras, " said the inspector.

He informed that by means of CCTV camera footage the railway police successfully solved several cases of bag-lifting, pickpocket, and mobile phone theft in the past.

"But several cases of thefts have taken place outside our current area of surveillance because not all the points are covered with the CCTV cameras. Thus we decided to go ahead with the plan, " said the inspector.
