A two-member team from the Central Zoo Authority visited Tata Steel Zoological Park on Tuesday to review compliance of guidelines prescribed by the apex body.

The team inspected almost all the 28-odd animal enclosures. The team visited the zoo clinic and post-mortem facility, and also asked about a wall inside the langur enclosure, part of which had recently collapsed.

Tata zoo director Bipul Chakravarty, vet Manik Palit, curator Sanjay Mahto and biologist Seema Rani accompanied the team as it inspected the 37-hectare zoo.

The CZA team collected data on animals and their health aspects during the more than three hour visit to the only private zoo in the country.

Chakravarty said the visit was related to evaluation of the zoo and nature of animal management . “The team also went through the layout plan under the master plan,” he informed.

Kishwan and Sharma are on a two-day visit that comes after three years. They will take stock of all aspects related to animal management, including diet of animals. They will also suggest upgrading of enclosures if required.
