Tata Steel will pay tribute to Tata group founder JN Tata on his 184th birth anniversary by inaugurating a slew of green projects in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur and illuminating the city’s iconic spots on March 3.
“This year’s theme for Founder’s Day celebration is ‘Greenovation — Make Tomorrow Green’. Every year, Tata Steel, along with other Tata group companies, celebrates the birth anniversary of the founder and his vision of an industrial future with community welfare at its core. Key features of this year’s celebration will be the illumination of more than 40 landmark spots in Jamshedpur including heritage buildings, places of worship, and dozens of roundabouts,” said Rituraj Sinha, managing director of Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited.
“Apart from this, there will be inaugurations of Jamshedpur Nature Trail, Covid Warrior Park and Agni Steel Structure,” said Sinha.
Agni Steel Structure, installed in Jubilee Park, has been articulated as a flame (agni) rising from mother earth and reaching for the skies.
“Fire symbolises many things in Indian culture: purity, spirituality, knowledge, and enlightenment, all leading to the path of truth. The form is inspired by three Archimedean spirals that rise from three corners of a triangle with different numbers of revolutions and pitches, finally meeting at the top. This was one of the finalists of the global design competition, Notions of India,” said a senior Tata Steel corporate communication official.
“Tata Steel conceptualised a global design competition, Notions of India, to celebrate the versatility of steel and its applications. The competition brings together architects from around the world who showcase their creativity by using hollow structural sections,” added the official.
“Covid Warrior Park has been developed to highlight the sacrifices and professional services of the frontline health workers during the pandemic. We used fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) to create the mannequins of a doctor, a nurse, paramedical staff, security personnel and cleaning staff who have been portrayed as Covid warriors. The park was completed in February this year near Keenan Stadium,” said the official.
A vast expanse of wasteland measuring about 21 acres has been converted into Jamshedpur Nature Trail for nature lovers in Jamshedpur. As part of its sustainability initiatives, Tata Steel envisaged the urban wasteland as an urban forest and developed the same within a period of two years.
The project was formulated with the broad objectives of increasing the green cover in Jamshedpur, building eco habitats in the city, reviving natural water bodies and wetland areas and improving aesthetics in the residential areas by creating open recreational spaces.
