Former Union minister of state for civil aviation and Hazaribagh MP Jayant Sinha on Saturday said chief minister Hemant Soren’s “honeymoon period” would be over soon.

Referring to the change of guard in the state that has upset the apple cart of the BJP’s double-engine government, Sinha said he now felt that one engine had started moving on a different path similar to the one treaded by the Bengal government.

In a news meet at the BJP office in Atal Bhavan on Saturday afternoon, Sinha congratulated Hemant and hoped that he would implement the welfare and development projects in the same way that the BJP government was doing.

“But the way the new government has started its tenure, it seems they are not keen on vikas ki (development) politics, but vinash ki (destruction) politics. It will halt development in Jharkhand. Everyone will realise it soon,” Sinha said.

He said it was now the BJP’s responsibility to play the role of a strong Opposition and point out all the wrongdoings of the government.

The Hazaribagh MP said he would be a chowkidar (guard) and keep a close watch on the working of the Hemant Soren government.

Highlighting the increase in Maoist activities, Sinha said law and order was a cause for serious concern in the state.

On the BJP’s poor show in the recently concluded Assembly elections, he said: “The BJP’s decision not to partner with Ajsu damaged its prospects in the election,” he said.

Asked about the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act across the country, Sinha said the Opposition had misguided people.

“We haven’t brought in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) yet, but people were told that they will have to show various documents to proof their identify as a citizen of India,” he added.
