Police have arrested Amit Kumar Mahato (23), a resident of Barpokhar Pidrajora, and the victim's college classmate, in connection Kumari’s murder, said SP, Bokaro, Chandan Kumar Jha.

Police have recovered the rope and mobile handsets from the possession of the accused.

Rishikesh had earlier accused his brother-in-law for murder as they had received a marriage proposal from him, but had refused.

Sources said that Kumari and Amit were in love from past two years and wanted to marry each other.

Rishikesh had fixed his daughter's marriage with another person in July which Kumari could not say 'no' to. Infuriated, Amit called her out of the house and strangled her to death.

The GPS location of Kumari and the accused were identical, and Amit confessed to killing her on interrogation, said police.

Hazaribagh virus victim's son admitted to hospital

The first Covid death in Hazaribagh district reported on Thursday, was a 45-year-old taxi driver and resident of Mangura village in Ichak, whose negligence has cost his family greatly, with his son being admitted to hospital due to symptoms.

The man returned from Mumbai on the morning of June 14, to attend his niece’s wedding, when he had a mild fever and cough.

His relatives said he took the symptoms lightly and termed it a common flu.

On Jun.14th evening, he attended the function with his wife, two sons and a daughter. His parents and relatives were also there.

The next day, he complained of uneasiness and breathlessness, following which he was taken to the block primary health centre, where he told doctors that he was a heart patient also having sugar problems.

After knowing that he came from Mumbai, a red zone area, doctors referred him immediately to Hazaribagh Medical College and Hospital(HMCH). But on June 17, he died and his report also came positive making it the first death case of the district.

Villagers said this was a happy family, and it was a big lapse on behalf of the man and his family as they ignored the bitter fact that he had returned from red zone.

Health department officials had sent 17 members of this family in quarantine and collected their swab samples for a coronavirus test.

The man’s teenaged son has been admitted to Covid ward of HMCH as his symptoms indicate infection. His reports are awaited.

The man’s last rites were performed away from town on Konar river banks after protest from Muktidham committee which looks after the Hindu crematorium situated in Khirgaon, said a relative.

He said the man went to Mumbai a few years back and later called his wife and trio children also. His wife and three children came to Ichak before Holi to see the wedding preparation.

Ichak social worker Gautam Kumar today placed his demand to temporarily shut down the Bank Of India, Mangura branch as it was situated close to Mangura village where the Covid patient lived.

He said the bank is functioning and can result in the spread of the disease, owing to the large footfall every day.
