The case of a teenager from Sherasham village sold to a young man from Rajasthan around three years ago, came into light when the victim contacted her father via mobile phone recently.
Basanti Kumari (17), daughter of Banarsi Bhuiyan, had suddenly disappeared from her ancestral residence three years ago. Her parents kept searching but to no avail.
The teenager, on promise of marriage, was trafficked by one Sanjay Chaudhary from Jharkhand, who sold her to Pawan Singh of Patan village in Rajasthan for two lakh rupees.
Soon, she began to be tortured by Singh in his house, who would tell her that he bought her for ₹ 200000.
After an arduous time, Basanti Kumari managed to call her father a few days ago and narrate the incident.
Later, Banarsi Bhuiyan filed a complaint to the Child Welfare Comitee (CWC), Garhwa.
“I have interrogated, and sent a letter to the headquarter DSP cum Nodal Officer SJPU to rescue the girl,” said CWC Chairman Upendra Dubey.
