Special Olympics Bharat (SOB) sanctioned Rs 20,000 for former special athlete Sanjeev Kumar Das on Tuesday.
Das, who is now in Delhi with his wife Vibha and mother-in-law, had earlier appealed to Special Olympic Jharkhand (SOJ) seeking monetary aid for treating his pregnant wife.
SOB has inimated SOJ about the money being granted for Das.
“We thank the SOB for sanctioning money to Das, but also requested to provide an additional Rs 5,000. The money will be handed over to Das in a couple of days,” said SOJ assistant area director Satbir Singh Sahota.
Das's wife is expected deliver her baby on June 15.
He was until recently employed with Sodexo Facilities Management Services at Baroda. The company shut down due to the lockdown.
Das represented India’s handball squad in the Special Olympics International World Summer Games in Dublin, in 2003, and later assisted Jharkhand’s special handball athletes who participated in the next edition of the Games held at Shanghai in 2007. The Indian special team won a bronze in that event.
