A 22-year-old migrant worker, housed at a quarantine centre in Chatra district, was allegedly bitten by a snake on Sunday morning. The man who returned from Mumbai was admitted to the Chatra district hospital and is currently stable, officials said.

Block development officer (BDO) Ranthu Mahto said: “I received a call around 5 am saying that one of the workers was bitten by a snake. Soon after I received the information, I directed the health authorities to send an ambulance and shifted him to Chtra district hospital. I have met the victim and he is in a healthy condition.”

After the incident, the other occupants of the centre caught the snake and threw it away, added Mahato.

He also added that after the man was found asymptomatic, his swab samples were not collected for Covid tests as per ICMR guidelines, and that administrative officials have sprayed snake repellents around the centre.

“The migrant was brought into the emergency ward of Sadar hospital around 5:30 am and was treated. The patient was administered anti-venom injection and saline and was stable,” said a doctor of district hospital, Chatra.
