A 35-year-old scrap dealer was shot dead near Teachers' Training School along the Tata-Kandra Road under Adityapur Police Station area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Thursday morning.

The deceased, identified as Debabrata Goswami alias Debu, was a resident of Bada Gamharia in Gamharia.

Unidentified bike-borne assailants launched a gun-shot attack on Debu while he was riding through the Tata-Kandra four-lane towards Jamshedpur at around 8.30 am.

The victim was found writhing in a pool of blood along the four-lane by passersby. He was rushed to Tata Main Hospital by a patrolling police party where the doctors on emergency duty declared him dead.

The victim had sustained a single shot that hit his heart after piercing through the shoulder.

Officer in Charge of Adityapur Police Station Alok Kumar Dubey claimed though Debu was a scrap dealer, his murder seemed to be the outcome of gang rivalry.

"The murder victim was a scrap dealer but he had a criminal record as well. From the preliminary investigation, it was learned that the murder took place due to gang rivalry," said Dubey while talking to The Telegraph Online.

The OC said they are trying to detect the assailants by scanning the CCTV footage of the murder scene. He pointed out they are also waiting for the autopsy report which will reveal the type of firearms used in the killing.

Though the slain scrap dealer had a dubious background, his broad-day-light murder on a busy road like Tata-Kandra four-lane has triggered fear among the businessmen and industrialists of the region.

"Our life is no more secure as a scrap dealer was shot dead on a busy road like the Tata-Kandra road. Gun-totting criminals are on the prowl, " observed an entrepreneur of Adityapur industrial area on condition of anonymity while talking to this website.
