A teen diploma engineering student who was cycling to his computer class was run over by a Carmel School bus on Ranchi-Purulia Road, over 15km from the capital in Tatisilwai thana area, on Thursday afternoon.
The school bus, with 30 students on board, hit Sudhanshu Kumar Jha, 17, from behind around 4pm. As Sudhanshu was knocked off his cycle and fell on the road, he came under the left rear wheel of the bus, Tatisilwai OC Ravindra Prasad Singh said.
He added the driver managed to escape.
Alternative arrangements were made to reach the schoolchildren on the bus safely home, the OC said.
As news of Sudhanshu’s death spread in the area, angry residents held up traffic on Ranchi-Purulia Road for over 30 minutes. Police pacified the protesters.
Sudhanshu, who had been pursing his technical education from Prabhavati Industrial Training Institute at Angara, originally hailed from Bhagalpur in Bihar.
He had been staying with his uncle’s family in Adarsh Nagar area for his studies. The mishap occurred barely 500 metres from his uncle’s home.
A policeman said the admit card recovered from Sudhanshu’s pocket said his father’s name was Anil Kumar Jha. The card also revealed Sudhanshu had been admitted to the technical institute in August 2017 as an electrical
engineering diploma student and his date of birth was March 10, 2001.
An FIR has been registered against the absconding bus driver. The students body has been sent for autopsy to RIMS.
Death on NH-33
A scooterist was killed on NH-33 on Thursday morning when a trailer hit him at Baliguma, 2km away from Jamshedpur’s entry point Dimna Chowk. Deceased Vikas Rai was identified as a resident of Sankosai in Mango, OC Arvind Kumar of MGM thana under whose area the mishap occurred, said. The trailer driver fled towards Ghatshila, he said.
