Loktantra Bachao Abhiyan (Save Democracy Campaign), a collective effort of rights outfits and social workers of Jharkhand, has vowed to prevent the BJP from securing a foothold in the state.
With the current JMM-Congress-RJD coalition’s term nearing its end in December 2024, over 100 social workers from various constituencies attended a daylong
meeting in Ranchi under the banner of Loktantra Bachao Abhiyan, to safeguard the state’s political landscape from what they describe as the threat of “double-bulldozer” governance.
“Anti-people face of BJP’s double bulldozer was exposed during the tenure of Raghubar Das government (2014-19). Even after facing defeat in the Assembly polls in 2019, the RSS and the BJP are continuously weakening the Jharkhand society by spreading communalism.”
“The BJP is not only silent on the Sarna Code passed by the Hemant Soren government, 27% reservation for backward classes and Khatian (land-survey) based local policy but has also been trying its best to stop them,” said a statement issued by the Abhiyan.
The statement alleged that the BJP has repeatedly tried to topple the elected government and also claimed that chief minister Hemant Soren was arrested and jailed based on false charges.
It cited the example of Chhattisgarh and alleged that after the formation of the BJP government, it started clearing the forest overnight by sending paramilitary forces in the tribal-dominated Hasdeo forests to give Adani a “gift for mining”.
The statement also alleged that there is widespread violence against Dalits and Muslims in Uttar Pradesh.
