Several RIMS alumni, who work abroad and have achieved national and international prominence in their respective medical fields, are planning to gift something heartwarming to the city of their alma mater.
The alumni will establish a free clinic in the city where patients will have access to international medical expertise.
The clinic, named PRAN Clinic, will start working from Monday at the Press Club near Karam Toli. Its working hours will be from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm.
Dr Dinesh Ranjan, former professor of the International College of Surgeons, Chicago, who now stays in Ranchi, said he would be at the clinic.
“I will not only serve the patients, but whenever needed, contact the RIMS alumni network for their expertise,” he said. “The clinic will have two doctors working initially, but their number will increase.” He added that PRAN Clinic was the abbreviation of the Pravasi Alumni Nishulk Clinic. “PRAN Clinic is affiliated to Service Beyond Borders, a philanthropic organisation in the US that was started by RIMS alumnus Dr Sangeeta Sinha, a top gynecologist in Virginia,” he said.
The USP of the free clinic, he said again, was that patients would have access to world-class healthcare.
“For patients with specific needs, the PRAN Clinic will pioneer a cutting-edge technology of telehealth to connect patients with experts in the US as needed. In addition, all patients’ records will be maintained in the clinic’s computers, so that patient follow-ups can be conducted seamlessly,” Dr Ranjan added.
Treasurer of Press Club Jaishankar welcomed the move. “A room in the club has been given for the clinic for now,” he said. Praising Dr Ranjan, Jaishankar said: “He has roots in Jharkhand that go back a long way. He’s studied in Netarhat Vidyalaya and St Xavier’s College Ranchi before joining RIMS in 1972.”
