A self-purported leader of a rights group was involved in a scuffle at the mofussil Giridih police station during which she allegedly bit cops, pulled their hair, scratched their hands and threw at them whatever she could lay her hands on.

The tussle, which lasted 20 minutes, involved 30-year-old Priti Bhaskar, who claimed to be the president of the Giridih unit of the International Human Right Association. Two women police officers and a male constable suffered bite injuries.

Subdivisional police officer, Giridih, Kumar Gaurav, who reached the police station soon after the incident, said: “Priti and her husband Nishant Bhaskar were there in connection with a land dispute and got involved in a brawl at the police station.” An FIR has been lodged against the couple, Gaurav said.

He added that the police had received a complaint related to a land dispute between two brothers in Kurumdiah and was investigating it. The couple is known to one of the parties. Priti and her husband approached the cops seeking relief for their party. They directly entered the cabin of the officer in charge, Ratnesh Mohan Thakur.

They were having a discussion when Priti allegedly started shouting at Thakur and threatened to get him dismissed from the force. Before Thakur could react, Priti flared up and scattered all the documents on his table. On hearing the commotion, other policemen rushed to the OC’s cabin. They tried to rein in Priti but she attacked them too.

Assistant sub-inspector Rajeshwari Devi was the first to be bitten by Priti. The next was constable Ambhuj Kumar, whom Priti scratched with her nails. When sub-inspector Hema Kumari made an attempt to restrain her, Priti picked a heavy object and flung it towards her but missed. Soon after, the policemen caught her, said Gaurav.

“We have released them on PR bond while also inquiring about the organisation she claimed herself a president,” added Gaurav.
