Accepting the offer of a bike ride home from an acquaintance cost a 17-year-old girl, returning from a picnic last week, dearly.

The minor girl from Jagannathpur in Ranchi on Saturday underwent a medical test at Sadar hospital after she and her family on Friday night told the police that she had been raped in SAIL City on Thursday.

However, in the FIR the date and the place of the crime have not been mentioned.

An official at Jagannathpur police station said investigation had started in case. He said the girl, who said she was a minor, had accused Golu Singh, a 25-year-old son of a transporter in SAIL City, of raping her in a flat there.

Asked how she landed up in the flat, she said she had gone on a picnic with friends on January 2 at Khunti.

While returning home, Golu, accompanied by his friend Saurav, offered her a lift on his bike, which she accepted.

However, instead of dropping the girl at her home, the youths took her at a flat at SAIL City, around 2km away, and Golu raped her, the girl alleged.

The girl also alleged that after raping her, the accused showed her gun and threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone.

The girl went home and tried to kill herself, her family members said, which is when they noticed something was amiss.

A Jagannathpur police officer said they registered an FIR based on the girl’s statement and took her for a medical examination on Saturday.

He added that the girl and her family reported the rape over a day late as they were all scared of the consequences of going to the police.

The girl hails from a lower middle class family, she is the daughter of a driver, while the accused is the son of a transporter,” the policeman said.

“The girl has said that she had been threatened by the accused of dire consequences in case she opened her mouth. Her family members said she was going to hang herself from the ceiling fan at home when they noticed her and then the whole story came out. They are all scared, because they know the transporter’s family, and vice-versa,” the policeman added.

Additional police superintendent of Hatia, Vineet Kumar, confirmed the FIR.

He added that a full-fledged police investigation was underway.

“We have started thorough probe in the case. Several points have to be probed in the matter. The time, date and place of occurrence have to be ascertained properly as the girl in her FIR has left out many crucial details,” the senior policeman said.

Kumar added that the medical test report would shed more light on the matter.
