The Rangatand Chamber of Commerce has decided to revise Dhanbad shop timings from 9 am to 7 pm, instead of the earlier 10 am to 9 pm. The decision was taken keeping in mind the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the district. In addition, complaints were received involving several retail and wholesale outlets which kept doors open till late, even 11 pm.

Rangatand Chamber of Commerce is one of 55 units of the Federation of Dhanbad Zila Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FDZCCI), with over 1000 wholesalers and other retailers as members.

FDZCCI treasurer, and Rangatand Chamber of Commerce secretary Shyam Gupta said, “We have instructed all our members to close down their shops by 7 pm, with a half an hour grace period if billing and packing is in progress. In case of failure to adhere to said norms, we will impose a fine of Rs 10000 on the outlet owner. We have also announced an incentive of Rs 5000 for those giving information about rule violation to ensure better surveillance. For repeated violations, amounting to more than three times, we have decided to carry out a social boycott of the violator.

Gupta further added, “We have also resolved to not provide articles to unmasked customers and put ropes as temporary barricading in front of shops. All shopkeepers will also be required to wear masks and ensure sanitisation mechanisms for customers and workers.” He also informed that security guards have been hired to maintain and regulate vehicles parked in the market.

Rajesh Gupta, former president of the FDZCCI, and president of the Pustak Vyavsai Sangh, said, “ We welcome the initiative taken by the Rangatand Chamber of Commerce. We feel that the present situation demands strict measures as cases are higher than those during the earlier lockdown.

The number of active cases in the district has increased to 103, with as many as 21 journalists, some doctors and even policemen testing positive during the last one week.
