The Ranchi University syndicate on Tuesday approved the varsity statute committee’s proposal for amendments to the Jharkhand State University Act.

“The committee on February 1 this year had proposed to amend article 12(2) of Jharkhand State University Act 2000 by which extension of service of pro-vice-chancellors of state universities were barred unlike vice-chancellors,” explained university spokesperson Prakash Jha. “The syndicate approved the proposal. Now it will go before the state and be discussed in the Assembly for a final decision.”

Syndicate member Atal Pandey said: “The syndicate also withdrew its decision by which resignation of principal of Vinod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University, Renuka Thakur, was accepted. Proposal for voluntary retirement to associate professor of chemistry, Sudhanshu Singh, on health grounds was accepted.”
